The QInnovision World Challenge 2025 invites participants to address some of the most pressing and complex industry challenges through quantum technologies. From aerospace and autonomous vehicles to finance and healthcare, this year’s challenges provide a unique platform for innovators to develop practical solutions that can advance quantum adoption globally. Below is a recap of the nine use cases that shape this transformative competition.

1-    THALES – QInnovision Challenge – Drones Path-Planning Using Quantum Computing

This Challenge is brought to you by Thales, a global technology leader with over 81,000 employees across five continents. Thales is committed to advancing digital and “deep tech” innovations, including quantum technology, to build a future based on trust. With expertise in defense, aerospace, space, and cybersecurity, Thales provides solutions that empower organizations and governments to fulfill critical missions safely and efficiently.

 Problem

As a leader in Thales is pioneering advancements in unmanned aviation and urban air mobility (UAM). To manage the growing complexity of air traffic, particularly with unmanned aerial systems, this Challenge focuses on optimizing drone path planning through quantum algorithms. The goal is to develop scalable and secure trajectory solutions for large-scale drone networks, with applications in UAS Traffic Management (UTM) and deconfliction strategies.

Technical Challenge

Participants will explore quantum computing to create trajectory optimization algorithms capable of handling high-density, four-dimensional (4D) routing for drones. Key methods include solving eikonal equations and using Monte-Carlo approaches for path planning, with an emphasis on scaling solutions for real-time airspace management.

2-    Castle Shield – QInnovision Challenge: Quantum-Resistant Security for Autonomous Systems Against Deepfake Attacks 

This Challenge is brought to you by Castle Shield, a leading provider of sophisticated data and identity protection solutions against all internal and external cyber threats. With a growing portfolio of scalable, quantum-resistant, high-entropy encryption solutions, Castle Shield allows businesses to protect their IP and safeguard their supply chain by securing devices, online sessions, and digital identities.

Problem

Autonomous systems and vehicles are vulnerable to deepfake attacks, which can bypass biometric security measures. This Challenge aims to develop quantum-resistant encryption protocols and zero-knowledge proofs to safeguard biometric data in autonomous systems, ensuring long-term resilience against deepfake attacks and quantum computing threats.

Technical Solution

The goal is to create a multi-layered security framework integrating quantum-resistant encryption, zero-knowledge biometric verification, and Root of Trust mechanisms. Solutions should detect and mitigate real-time deepfake threats, ensuring data security in autonomous vehicle modules.

This Challenge seeks innovative solutions to improve healthy aging. The focus is on modeling factors that influence longevity, including diet, exercise, and cognitive health, leveraging quantum computing for complex simulations and predictions.

Technical Approach

Participants will use data science, machine learning, and quantum computing to model aging processes. Solutions should identify key modifiers for longevity and investigate potential interventional strategies that promote healthy aging.

4-    CQTS New York University – QInnovision Challenge: Quantum Federated Learning (QFL) Challenge for Fraud Detection in Finance

This Challenge is brought to you and led by the CQTS at New York University Abu Dhabi, the leading quantum research center in the region. The center focuses on robust quantum computation by integrating expertise across Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics.

Problem

Financial institutions require robust fraud detection solutions that maintain customer data privacy. This Challenge explores Quantum Federated Learning (QFL) for decentralized fraud detection, enabling institutions to train models on distributed datasets without compromising privacy.

 Technical Objective

Develop a QFL architecture that improves privacy, scalability, and detection accuracy. Solutions should leverage quantum techniques for efficient model training across distributed financial datasets.

5 – Nvidia – QInnovision Challenge: Vehicle Routing Optimization Using Quantum Algorithms

This Challenge is brought to you by NVIDIA, a global leader in accelerated computing and artificial intelligence. It is known for pioneering technologies that power some of the most complex computing tasks across industries. With its expertise in high-performance computing, AI, and quantum research, NVIDIA is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, helping industries tackle intricate optimization problems with unprecedented speed and efficiency.

 Problem 

Nvidia’s Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) focuses on optimizing delivery routes for a fleet of vehicles. This Challenge translates VRP into a Max Cut Problem and applies quantum optimization using NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q platform to develop scalable solutions. 

Technical Tasks

Participants will implement the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) on GPUs, scale solutions for larger graphs, and explore quantum circuit cutting and distributed computing techniques.

 Problem 

Classiq presents a challenge for solving the advection equation, a critical equation in fluid dynamics, using quantum Hamiltonian simulation. This use case explores quantum techniques to model fluid transport without diffusion, often used in environmental and pollutant tracking.

 Technical Approach

Participants will apply Hamiltonian simulation methods to solve the advection equation, comparing results with classical approaches and using the Classiq platform for algorithm design and execution.

8 – Kipu Quantum – QInnovision Challenge – Optimizing Power Grid Unit Commitment with Quantum Computing

This Challenge is brought to you by Kipu Quantum, a pioneering company focused on leveraging quantum computing to solve complex optimization challenges across various sectors, including energy, logistics, and finance. Kipu Quantum’s solutions aim to drive efficiency, sustainability, and innovation through advanced quantum technologies.

 Problem

Efficient power grid management requires precise scheduling to meet electricity demand while minimizing costs and emissions. This unit commitment problem is essential for ensuring grid stability, particularly in hybrid systems that integrate both renewable and traditional energy sources. Optimizing power unit start-ups and shut-downs prevents costly imbalances in energy production and supports sustainable, cost-effective grid operations.

 Technical Approach

Participants will develop a quantum-based solution to tackle the unit commitment problem for a medium-city grid powered by three renewable and two traditional energy sources. The goal is to calculate optimal schedules that balance production costs, emissions, grid load, and reserve needs while adhering to environmental and operational constraints. By modeling this problem as a Mixed Integer Quadratic Programming (MIQP) Challenge, participants will apply quantum algorithms to solve complex, combinatorial tasks, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of grid management.

9 – IBM Quantum Challenge – Predicting Flash Floods with Quantum Machine Learning

Business Problem

This Challenge, powered by IBM Quantum, provides participants with access to cutting-edge quantum hardware to tackle a critical issue: improving flash flood prediction. As a leader in quantum computing, IBM Quantum offers an advanced infrastructure that enables participants to explore quantum machine learning (QML) applications for complex real-world challenges.

Problem 

Flash floods are a significant hazard, often exacerbated by climate change. Accurate predictions can mitigate damage and save lives. This Challenge leverages quantum machine learning (QML) to enhance flash flood prediction accuracy and efficiency.

 Technical Challenge

Participants will use QML to develop a flood prediction model, processing complex and imbalanced datasets from multiple sources. The model should provide early warnings for severe flash floods, supporting disaster management efforts.
