Meet the Speakers

Dr. Daniel Volz

Dr. Daniel Volz is co-founder and CEO of Kipu Quantum GmbH, a quantum computing startup with the mission to shorten the waiting time for industrial quantum advantage for end users by leveraging application- and hardware-specific algorithms.

Previously he served as a project lead with BASF SE, working on the strategic impact of quantum computing and other corporate-development related topics. Later, as a senior consultant at McKinsey’s Frankfurt office, he built up McKinsey’s quantum computing capabilities and acted as a consultant for clients in verticals such as chemicals, pharma, oil & gas, banking, automotive, and electronics.

He co-built a specialty chemicals startup as the first non-founder employee (high-tech and electronic chemicals) in his twenties and mastered skills like R&D and managing projects and teams of various sizes along the way. He also tapped into product development and strategic marketing to reach market readiness for deep-blue TADF technology, which is commercialized in OLED displays to drastically decrease the power consumption of hand-held devices and enable better displays.

Prof. Enrique Solano

Prof. Enrique Solano is co-founder and Co-CEO of Kipu Quantum, a quantum computing startup with the mission to shorten the waiting time for industrial quantum advantage for end users by leveraging application- and hardware-specific algorithms. As a physicist, he has worked in Peru, France, Brazil, Germany, China, and Spain, occupying leading positions in academic institutions. He constantly explores interdisciplinary ideas and initiatives merging arts, science, technology, and entrepreneurship. Apart from his pioneering works in quantum computing and quantum technologies, he develops novel interdisciplinary fields like quantum arts, neuromorphic quantum computing, quantum brain networks, and the quantum metaverse.

Dr. Michael Falkenthal

Dr. Michael Falkenthal is a quantum enthusiast who drives the near-term application of quantum in real world applications. As the lead architect in the former lighthouse project PlanQK funded by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs, he developed the Kipu’s quantum platform and actively nurtures the quantum community and ecosystem to pave the road to usable quantum solutions for all kinds of stakeholders. He has a background in computer science and cloud platform engineering and received his PhD from the Institute of Architecture of Application Systems of the University of Stuttgart.

Prof. Hisham Sati

Hisham Ahmad Sati is the Director of the Center for Quantum and Topological Systems (CQTS) and serves as the Associate Dean for Student Success and Curricular Affairs at NYU Abu Dhabi. He is also a Professor of Mathematics and holds the position of Global Network Professor of Mathematics at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University.

Dr. Sati earned his BS from the American University of Beirut and his PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His research expertise spans across Mathematical Physics, Quantum Field Theory, Differential Geometry, Algebraic Topology, and the Geometric and Topological Aspects of Physics. His interdisciplinary work has been recognized with grants from the US National Science Foundation and other prominent funding bodies.

Before joining NYU Abu Dhabi, Dr. Sati was an Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, where he supervised multiple PhD students and taught at all academic levels. His earlier academic roles included being a Gibbs Assistant Professor at Yale University, a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland College Park, and a Research Associate at both the Australian National University and the University of Adelaide.

Dr. Sati has been a visiting researcher at prestigious institutions worldwide, including CERN, MSRI, the Max Planck Institute, the Erwin Schroedinger Institute, IHES, IHP, and the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics. He has organized numerous workshops, seminars, and scientific meetings, and was honored to deliver the Adams Memorial Lecture in Topology at the University of Manchester in 2016.
